As part of Merck Foundation Community Awareness campaign, ‘Merck More Than a Mother’ Fashion Award has been launched in Zambia and Ghana in 2019, to involve the local fashion industry with the aim to create new fashion trends which deliver strong and influential messages to empower infertile and childless women and say ‘No to Infertility Stigma’, as well as to create a meaningful fashion trend to educate their communities that ‘Fertility is a Shared Responsibility’ and men should support their wives and join them during treatment journey.

Fashion Students from Fashion institutes and colleges are invited to create a design with the aim to deliver strong and influential messages to empower infertile women and say, “No to Infertility Stigma”.
Fashion is a powerful tool to empower women and it is a rising industry in Africa which attracts and involved huge number of young talents in Africa who we can leverage to realize our vision.
In 2019, we have announced the winners of the Fashion awards of Zambia and Ghana in partnership with Zambia Fashion week and Accra Technical Institute and College of Creative Design of Ghana in addition to the First ladies of Ghana and Zambia.
The call for application for the ‘Merck More Than a Mother’ Fashion Award was announced during the Merck More than a Mother Media training in each country and through the website and social media of each partner.
The call for application was also announced through Merck Foundation social media and through a public press release.
Ghana Fashion Award winners were announced during Merck Africa Asia Luminary in Ghana while the Zambia Fashion Award winners were announced during the Zambia Fashion week, both in October 2019!
The Merck Foundation fashion awards committee has selected the winners based on how strong and effective the community awareness messages included in each design which is the main purpose of the campaign.
In 2020, Merck Foundation launched the Fashion awards in Ghana, Namibia and Zambia
Winners of Merck Foundation Fashion Awards "More Than a Mother" 2020 will be announced soon.
Merck More than a Mother Fashion Awards Committee:
The committee is formed to select the winners in an unbiased manner, based on evaluating the practicality of including clear and simple messages to sensitize the communities about breaking the stigma of infertility and/or empowering women & girls through education, in each design in line with the objectives of the Merck More than a Mother campaign to raise awareness within the communities.
